It was a pleasure to attend the 'Thank You Picnic' that Medical Detection Dogs held at Winslow Hall last Saturday and even nicer was sharing the journey with Emmie and her Diabetic Alert Dog Toby. It was a lovely opportunity to get to know each other a bit better and hear how in the last couple of years since having Toby, Emmies' way of life has totally been transformed by her canine partner.
It was a lovely afternoon and the presentation by Dr.Claire Guest and the demonstration was excellent. It is amazing how far the charity has come and how much has already been achieved in such a relatively short time, and there is so much more exciting news and doors of opportunity opening, it was certainly inspiring. I have to say though the highlight for me was probably seeing Marla and getting to meet Maria and Alan her socialisers. It was a very proud moment for me as her breeder to see how well Marla behaved and how beautiful she looked (although I may be a little biased), and hearing from Maria how well she has been coping with all the different stages of her socialising programme. Marla is in training as a Diabetic Alert Dog. The way forward for Medical Detection Dogs is very exciting and we are even more determined to spread the word and raise awareness of the ground breaking developments that hopefully soon will make the news. |
